Lake Water... Austism
In case anyone missed it, the city won it's appeal against the Saratoga Lake Improvement District, for the right to draw water from Saratoga Lake last week. The ruling, from the state's highest court, would allow the city to move forward with lake water plans, if permits pending with the state DEC were approved, and if the council chose to pursue that route. Based on their actions thus far, such a move seems unlikely. Nevertheless, several members of the council have said publicly that they would support obtaining said permit from the DEC, to have in case need for lake water is ever established and universally supported by some future administration. At the very least, Saturday's news must have felt like a real vindication to Tommy McTygue. I would have provided a link to Barbara Lombardo's story, but for some reason, it seems not to have made it to the web. Sorry!
In other news, your elected officials are now recommending TV programs, albeit social-conscious ones:

McDonald to host autism awareness forum in Malta on April 5
Assemblyman Roy McDonald (R,C,I-Saratoga), Chairman of the Assembly Republican Autism Awareness Forums, today encouraged residents to watch AUTISM: THE MUSICAL, a new documentary that is scheduled to air on HBO on Tuesday, March 25, at 8 p.m.
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, one in 150 children may be afflicted with autism. AUTISM: THE MUSICAL counters this troubling statistic with the story of five autistic children, their families and the woman who leads them to defy expectations by writing, rehearsing and performing their own musical.
“As Americans, we are an optimistic people who believe in the possible and what we can do as individuals, even if it requires a little help from family and friends,” said Assemblyman McDonald, a grandfather of two autistic children. “I know from personal experience that those with autism are people too and they need and deserve all the love and support we can give them so they can enjoy as a high a quality of life as possible. That’s why I am pleased to recognize anything that promotes the principle of people overcoming adversity to achieve a goal.”
McDonald will be hosting an Assembly Republican Autism Awareness Forum on Saturday, April 5, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Saratoga Bridges (formerly Saratoga ARC), 16 Saratoga Bridges Boulevard, Malta (the first right off of Exit 13S of I-87 -- the last building on the left). The forum is open to the public.
Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) are developmental disabilities that cause impairments in social interaction and communication, marked by the presence of unusual behaviors and interests. Many people with ASDs have different ways of learning, paying attention and reacting to various situations. The thinking and learning abilities of people with ASDs can vary from the gifted to the severely challenged. An ASD begins before the age of three and lasts throughout a person's life.
And finally... did anyone else do a double take upon hearing the news that a frozen body was found in the Hudson in Troy? For a minute I was convinced I'd be driving to Greenwich to watch a certain "person of interest" do the perp walk. But alas... this body appears to be someone else entirely.
Happy Easter!

The Court's ruling in favor of the Lake Water Option is much more than a mere "vindication" for Public Servant McTygue. In time, it will be seen as one more of his priceless enhancements to this community. I choose the word "priceless" intentionally for those who understand the PRICE we ALL have paid to gain approval for what has ALWAYS been a perfectly sound Public Works project. The irony… and the pain… is now certainly felt by everyone at the March 18 Council meeting when the leading NIMBY blowhard strode to the microphone and used the Public Comment period to vent his rage at the “ridiculous expense” of the project. Given the Court's decision that he and his NIMBY crowd were not on solid legal footing, perhaps his next address to the Council will be to apologize for the extra FIVE MILLION dollars our City has spent to defeat four years of spurious litigation. Of course, we taxpayers pay for his God-given right to Free Rant...I mean SPEECH. I can only wonder how his neighbors feel after giving him so much hard-earned money to enrich the lawyers throughout these four years of fruitless legal mudslinging.
Maybe Micky D should be working on A STATE BUDGET!!!!!!!
The taxpayers in the City of Saratoga Springs should be THANKING that so called NIMBY blowhard because if it was not for him and the other people who opposed this project, the City would be in the middle of paying for a 20 MILLION dollar water system THAT THEY NEVER NEEDED. At least now they can concentrate on real projects that they really need like a police station that works or more fire protection for the East side of the City. Kyle you still don't get it.
I would like to thank the nimby blowhard for nothing, YOU AND THEE OTHERS have cost the city quite a bit of money, the city will proceed and get the permit and put it on the shelf for the future that's good planning.Still no FBI arrests or DEC busts...they should arrest you dave b.....take note dave, small b.

Whoever you are, you sound interesting and informed. I'd enjoy a talk where you would be shocked...SHOCKED!... to learn that I, in fact my friend, DO "get it." Unfortunately, you keep your blogging a wee bit too close to home. I suggest you visit the Post-Star and the Saratoga Springs blog of staff members Thomas D(etc) and Drew Kerr. In person or in cyberspace you will learn that I do NOT want to BUILT a system. In a world of changing priorities and reduced revenues I say our FIRST priority is our bonded REC facility(s). NEXT comes a Public Safety plan that balances NEED with AFFORDABILITY. That's enough for this town to bear, thanks in part to the MA$$IVE County Sewer expense that our Supervisors fought so passionately against... only to see the plan passed by the rest of the smirking and winking Supervisors. I was there and I saw the smirks and winks as the County slammed us. Mayhaps you were there too, my friend "A Said." So while you discredit a person you don't speak with, I am continuing to assemble the facts, figures, and hard science for the Public Hearings I hope we'll attend this summer, when this community can discuss the "need" for a Saratoga Lake plan. Between you and I, I see no "need" aside from a catastrophic toxic event at Loughberry Lake. So IF the COST of a Permit is NOT prohibitive, I want us to PLAN proactively, APPLY for a Permit...and GET it.
Is there anything in any of the reports that details the historic monthly water levels of Lake Loughberry, for say the last 10-20 years?
If not does anyone have an idea of where one might find such information?
thanks for any help.

McTygue and company spent 2 million dollars of taxpayers money on a proposed water system the City did not need all the while charging less than it was costing to run the system he had and now the "bill" has come due. And now you want to blame the people who opposed the biggest boongoggle the city has seen for many years for the unnecessary expense. You deserve the highest taxes in the area and the even higher one to come in the future.
