Dispatchers to stay put?

*Added on 9/14/09 at 7:38 p.m.: Concerning point 2. I've received a voice mail from Saratoga Springs Republican Chairman John Herrick, who states that I have cast a cloud of suspicion over five Republican candidates. That was certainly not my intention, so I will state now that I do not have any reason to believe that the second-hand allegations referenced in this post are true. In fact, all accounts point to them being questionable at best, but most likely completely false. I apologize for not making that more clear. The point of this post was to let the reading public know that I have not had any contact with the person(s) making these allegations, although they are stating otherwise, apparently in a bid to give themselves more credibility. I think the reverse effect has proven to be true.

** Further updates, 11:32 p.m.: I have now spoken with Mr. Herrick, and after hearing his concerns -- namely that this post may have (or has had) the unintended effect of calling into question the character of all five GOP candidates -- I have agreed to temporarily remove point #2, pending a review by the editors here. I would like to state again that I have no reason to believe the allegations referenced in this post are true, I mentioned them here only to inform readers that I have had no contact with a woman who claims to have had lengthy conversations with me.

Couple of things to discuss tonight:

1) City officials met with Sheriff James Bowen on Wednesday. I will have a full report in Friday's paper, but the early version is that both Saratoga Springs Police Chief Ed Moore and Sheriff Bowen agree that the city would not realize significant savings in the short term by consolidating dispatch services with the county -- and that the type of service may not be the same as what exists currently. There are a few reasons for this, which will be fully enunciated in the story.

3) On Monday, we had our much-ballyhooed community meeting. I thought it was an interesting exercise, though not as "explosive" as some had told me it would be. Instead, it seemed mostly to be community groups wondering how to get their groups more and better exposure. Secretly, I was hoping that "Horatio Alger," proprietor of the iSaratoga blog, would expose his or her identity in some subtle way visible only to me. Sadly, it did not come to pass.

Nor did the droves of anonymous haters turn out in a vitriol spewing mass -- not that I expected them too. No anonymity at a community meeting, after all.

wow, that's impressive. printing the salaries that are comparable to other municipalities. and omitting the fact that that includes overtime.

Come on Demroc don’t you believe in transparency in government. The salaries include overtime but not benefits which would realty drive the numbers up.

The city is contractually forced to pay the police their full city salaries even when they are conducting business for the union or negotiating their contract with the city.

I just want to know how much time that was.

An excellent blog on local and national police abuses can be found at

Anon 5:31 - Is that the person who became the bodyguard for a local socialite ? Something about a pigeon and a suitcase ?

What about the "allegations of infidelity by a Democratic candidate" ?

I believe the police are underpaid. These salaries are not high for what they do. What I want to know is the real cost this Recreation Center is going to cost to run. All of a sudden the REC Center is a non-issue. Johnson is spreading 200,00 per year to run it. Who really has the correct figures?

george,
you ought to check out blogabuse.org. it's a wonderful blog about how, ignorant people get on the web and go trolling. they make up several different aliases, and pretend to have conversations with themselves trying to bolster their pathetic, petty arguments. a lot of times, they claim it is public employees living on the lamb, from their settlements and have nothing better to do then critisize others for the benefits they enjoy. but then again, you may find that a boring read, because after all you live that life.
so, unless george is plagerizing from kaiser soze, (who'd be that pathetic) who's antagonist was , agent kujans, i will assume that's who you are, kujans.
a true measure of a man, is how he treats his fellow humans, when he has nothing to gain from them. something you and the rest of the ousted democrats will never understand. my only question, is what does tommy have on you? it must be something good.

you are correct about the bonding issue. but mayor johnson could have gotten us from under the bond. this was according to mark lawton, a municipal bond expert for the state of new york. so one has little to do with the other. the cost of this building, is going to reach pretty close to $10 million after the debt service, and will represent about 5% of your tax increase.

These questions are for the demroc and Kim’s fan club.I would guess you call yourself a democrat and a progressive? I am a democrat and have worked in the trenches of organized labor in Wal-Mart, McDonalds’ and different Racino’s across the sate were many times I was confronted by PBA card carrying “union brothers” of the local police.

How can you justify the salaries of the police when Saratoga is spending $445 Per Capita on public safety and $7 dollars Per Capita on social services . Do you realize cuts will have to be made in this already paltry amount spent on social services? That means a direct cut to Shelters of Saratoga the EOC soup kitchen and other vital programs for the poor. All of this so the cops can tidy up in a new powder room? Do you really hate the poor and children enough to can a Rec center for a SWAT team. As far as the local Dem's there won't be much left of the party at least locally after this election,
I also have no doubt you will blame McTygue and not the laughable candidates you fielded thus ensuring the republicans dominance in the city for the next decade. Well done..

oh, it didn't exsist? too funny.
i justify their salary because it seems in line with what a lot of cops get all over the country. and sure, i'm know you can find some that get less, and you can find some that get more. how do these salaries compare to other local law enforcement agencies? the numbers you print really mean nothing, unless you print something to compare them to.

Of coarse there’s no web site truth

Making up false web sites, lying and misrepresenting the truth are all tactics employed by demroc and cohorts. Remember these are the same folks who bought us ACORN.

Demroc,

I respectfully disagree. The only thing I would add to george's numbers is the amount of hours these police officers worked and the degree of their salary that includes cashing in carry-over comp time; and perhaps their exact job detail on the force.

The salaries on their face value are extremely telling. They provide a comparison for people who work hard and make a certain level of pay, which is usually commensurate with both education and experience. That is the comparison that I use, not what some gun-toting cowboy copper might make in...say...the north fork of Long Island...or the outskirts of Platsburgh.
