66 Franklin
I'll have a full report in the paper some time over the weekend, but for the time being, readers might be interested to know that the fate of the "other" endangered historic building -- the one at 66 Franklin Street, was not decided at Wednesday's Design Review Commission meeting.
An application for the building's demolition has been before the commission for a few months, and a decision on the application is likely at the next meeting, on July 1.
Look for complete coverage in the paper this weekend.

I look forward to your full report.
I love the story of Sophie Tucker staying there and the Farone family...the burlap wrapped whiskey stored in the basement - left over from the bootlegging days. In the 40's Fred took over some bottles to a seller in Amsterdam and the seller told him to bring it all over as it was btter that what they (legally) made then... Did you read Stokes article in the Saratogian--she never gave credit to the person who saved the area - Bea Sweeney-interview her. Stokes was wrond with the date of the RR staion in Saratoga AND it where it was at that tim e--(where the downtowner was now.) Oh well...a little indepth reporting would be good.
I've not seen the report. What I HAVE seen is the building... every day and long before it became "news." I've seen the worst of it up close, shared photos to convey the urgency to City Hall... and been flamed here for myriad reasons. While The Flamers have turned their erudite rage to 23 Greenfield, I've watched 66 decay further while "awaiting" the City's report. I'm looking at a hole the size of TV set under the east gutter. You WANT a Report? I'll GIVE you a Report- The state of the interior is nothing short of horror in the dark, from rot to rats, stripped, moldy, held together by little more than pigeon waste. The ONLY chance is an immediate and expensive SERIOUS sealing of the exterior. Here it is in three sentences, and I'll bet any blogging buddy 1000 bucks that this "Blow-hard know-it-all" can sum up the long-awaited report in these 40 words-- "66 Franklin is at the utter brink of condemnation. The whole gutted interior holds nothing of value, home only to pigeons and rodents. If the exterior is not totally sealed without delay, the structure will be condemned within two years."
40 words.
1000 dollars.
Any takers? Tuna?
