Wirth running mate?

Richard Wirth, who has been endorsed by both the Republican and Independence parties to run for the post of Commissioner of Public Safety, was present at today's presentation of the 2010 capital program.

While Wirth has not said much to me about his campaign, and possible platforms, one thing was clear from the meeting today. If elected, former Deputy Commissioner of Public Safety Frank Dudla will be involved.

Dudla, who was appointed to the Deputy post by former Commissioner of Public Safety Thomas Curly in 2005, continnued to serve under Kim until January 2008, when Kim bumped Dudla for Eileen Finneran.

If Richard Wirth's ONLY promise was the return of a qualified, experienced and mission-focused Deputy, that alone is "change we need." Anyone who knows Frank Dudla is aware of the void he left, a void that became a vacuum with the appointment of a political hack to take on his invaluable responsibilities.

But there is more to Rick Wirth than his commitment to bring to bring professionalism and functionality to City Hall. He knows Public Safety from his work in Long Island's Nassau County. He knows how to advocate for his men and women without becoming their mouthpiece-cheerleader.

He knows the myriad post-9/11 grants and programs, and the process that could strengthen our Public Safety system NOW at zero cost to the City.

You can learn all this by simply talking to Richard Wirth. He is approachable, not imperial. He chooses words carefully, not letting them tumble out helter skelter. And he is passionate about the safety of a community... not the grandeur of his legacy.

whats the likely hood of that? is it something we should pay attention to, or is it a ,way out there, comment.

Demroc: Finding out if those allegations are true won't be difficult -- but it's a potentially embarrassing question, and one that I won't ask until there is some kind of formal announcement by the campaign of Dudla's involvement.
