Getting ready for candidate interviews

We here at The Saratogian are getting ready to interview candidates for endorsements in the November city-wide elections. In these interviews, we expect to ask candidates a wide range of questions, on topics ranging from city finances and the state of the still-pending union contracts, to the recreation center, a possible public safety facility, parking, development, and a host of other issues.

But, we’d also like to have your input, so please post here, or email me (abernstein@saratogian.com) questions that you’d like the candidates to address. We’ll do our best to get everyone’s questions answered.

Ask skippy why in his first of office he wasn't more careful with the spending, why did he vote for a zero tax increase for 2009 knowing the $3.8 million in VLT WAS GOING TO BE CUT.This smiling air head should be run out of the building,he knows nothing about city finances but yet you'll ask him questions... amazing.Eddie Miller is the right person for the task that lies before the city,Skippy couldn't even face the 22 partimers he has to lay off... because of his poor manageral skills they'll have some holiday season,he couldn't face them we don't need dept. leaders that hide under the bed when the going gets tough. It's Miller Time.

Andrew J Bernstein:

Questions for the mayoral candidates:

Ron Kim: Why was your approach of negotiating directly with City worker unions so successful in achieving prompt contract settlements?

Scott Johnson: Why was your approach of hiring a $250 an hour Albany law firm to negotiate with City worker unions such a dismal failure?

Ron Kim: How have you been able to use your skills and experience as a lawyer for the benefit of City taxpayers?

Scott Johnson: How come you haven't been able to use your skills and experience as a lawyer for the benefit of City taxpayers?

Ron Kim: After 120 years of Republican neglect, will you finally make the construction of a new public safety facility a priority?

Scott Johnson: Why did you break your campaign promise to make a public safety facility a priority and instead waste millions of taxpayer dollars on an unneeded recreation center?

Ron Kim: If you're elected mayor, will you lead the effort to get back the State aid for video lottery host communities that was lost under Mayor Johnson?

Scott Johnson: How did you manage to become the only mayor in the entire state to lose State video lottery aid for your community? It sure doesn't look like partisan politics, since the Republican mayor of Yonkers brought home his usual $20 million a year.

Ron Kim: How were you able to save taxpayer dollars by eliminating the executive assistant position in the Department of Public Safety?

Scott Johnson: Why did you refuse to eliminate the executive assistant position in the mayor's office and why do you insist on keeping your former sister-in-law on the city payroll as an unneeded $60,000 a year switchboard operator?

Ron Kim: Why do you oppose the Beaver Pond development in Geyser Crest?

Scott Johnson: Why do you support the Beaver Pond development in Geyser Crest?

Miller time can't come soon enough, these overfeed cry baby union members of the csea are hell bent on breaking the cities back, they think they should earn as much as our under paid police and fire depts, scricco says he put the public back in public works, excuse me,whens the last time he attended a community affair other than something for himself try never, even his next store neighbor has a Miller sign in front of their home, that speaks volumes,Eddie Miller will not hide out in the back of city hall with the secretarys, for no more LIES and real community involvement vote for EDDIE MILLER.

well you'll have to go to another city if you want to see a miller victory.
and there is no store, next to their residence.
and you must mean the neighbor who went down to the police station and complained that, officer cotter was a racist, when she is/was married to an african american. a little kookie, kujans.
and i guess logic doesn't seem to be your strong suit, but if i understand, mctygue negotiated the last contract of which you're complaining. and mayor johnson is/was negotiating this one. so if the csea is your gripe, then you're barking up the wrong tree fido.

Please ask Mayor Johnson to conduct a public review of the rec department's budget and the dramatic increases. Do we really need biddy basketball when the proposed budget is cutting Public Safety personnel? Mr Johnson is only protecting his own turf and lashing out to embarrass Ron Kim.

thank you

Why dont you Miller supporters come clean and tell the voters the truth. Mr Miller is not running to cut taxes, fix the budget or even because he was run out of the park for selling hot dogd illegally under the watchful eye of Don Tomasino Mctygue. The only reason the Mctygues have him running is to save his brothers job and get the other brother a position. So spew all the hate and anger that youve stored up over the last two years, get it out of your system because come November you can stick a fork in Eddie he'll be done.

Breaking up that 120 years of Republican neglict were the terms of Mayor Watkin, Klotz and Keehn.

Also Commissioner Kim voted for a Rec Center, and did not get a police station when the Dems had a 4-0-1 majority in 2006-7.
