Here's the poop from Broadway
Steve here, with breaking news from the scene on Broadway?
City reporter Patrick H. Donges was enjoying a meal about 20 minutes ago (on his day off) in Putnam Market when he saw a Great Dane stroll by and relieve himself on the sidewalk. Apparently it's a very significant amount of relief - the kind that doesn't run into the street, if you catch my meaning.
Anyhow, he called the police and they said they'd notify the DPW. By the time he called the newsroom moments ago to report this (I'm still not sure why), the matter was still unresolved and people were still having to detour a few steps around the matter to go about their business (pun fully intended).
Patrick didn't mention anything about the person walking the Great Dane (and apparently being neglectful in cleanup).
What do you think? Further proof that downtown Saratoga Springs is going to the dogs, as this letter writer asserts?

I don't see any reason to BAN dogs from downtown, but encourage them? F-NO. This nonsense with the anthropomorphism of canines is asinine.
Loren is right: Dogs are animals. Unfortunately, some people don't understand this. Others simply don't care.
On a personal note, I'm starting to believe the burgeoning craze over dogs has a lot to do with peoples' own inability to communicate with one another. Why do most people bring their dogs to highly visible public areas? Well, to attract attention. Food for thought...
Why would you call the police about a dog taking a dump on the sidewalk?
Call one of the cops or DPW workers that got laid off! I sure they would give a crap!
rather than call the police or write an article to make yourself money you could actually do somthing. Like pick it up or say somthing to the owner.Im thinking your no man of direct action maybe next time you can write ayour congressman.
I see the humor in this story, yet if it had been me paying "good money" for a meal, and a night out, I would be pretty upset.
Good for Loren, we need more Lorens and fewer canines, especially the great dane type.
Would it be rude to take the dump to their house and leave it somewhere like the hood of their car or front stoop? These people have no respect for anyone but themselves and their beloved canines. All rules and protocols are for other people because their dog is a good dog. Their dog is special and never does anything they're not supposed to.
I totally agree with many comments posted on the topic on the main website; it's not the dog's fault, it's the owner's. But that doesn't make it any more appropriate. And yes, kids can be just as annoying, but they are humans that we're trying to teach how to live in our society. They need to experience life and I hope their parents don't teach them as poorly as they teach their dogs.
Umm, why didn't our reporter hero confront the owner? Why didn't someone/anyone confront the owner? All you have to do is call them out on this type of behavior. A dog does what a dog does, it's the owners responsibility to be mindful of their dog.
Calling the police over this is a display of childish behavior. The police have more important things to be doing than responding to dog crap on the sidewalk. Tell your reporter to grow up some, become a bit more assertive instead of the pansy he apparently is.
Umm, I was eating lunch on my day off and called this in. It's not my responsibility to clean up or make a citizen's arrest. Anon 3, I made no money to call this in. Anon 6, you call me childish and proceed to call me a "pansy".
