Commissioner Franck and the rec center
In voting in favor of advancing the indoor recreation center this evening, John Franck told the public that his endorsement by the Democratic Committee in this year's city elections would hinge on his vote on the rec center. Throwing caution -- and possibly his party affiliation -- to the wind, Franck voted for the project, and in doing so, drew a line between himself and his would-be party mate, Commissioner of Public Safety Commissioner Ron Kim.
This comment should remove any doubt that the rec center has become a political football, but, more interesting is the fact that Franck -- who told me earlier this year that the Democrats could be hugely successful in this year's election if they put aside their differences -- was willing to vote on his beliefs, and not his party marching orders.
So, the question remains: will Franck convince the Democrat that he and Kim can agree to disagree on the rec center and still run on the ticket, or will Franck become the city's next Matt McCabe, and run to keep his seat on the council as an independent, possibly against a member of his former party AND a member of the GOP?
We'll have to wait and see on that one, but the fact remains that the rec center passed through tonight's council meeting with bi-partisan support -- and bipartisan dissent.

Andrew--
First off, IGNORE the ANONS who will flame you for using "descent" instead of "dissent." Your choice (either way) was BOTH brilliant and WAY over the heads of the rabid spell-check Chumps.... NOT that I am being MEAN to those literary lions!
Franck's actions Tuesday night were the stuff we should be proud of. IFFFFF he irritated ANYBODY, it was the NIMBY crowd with Law degrees from BigName universities... Elitists who have Mastered the Fine Arts of Morality and Mendacity.
The cheap-seat audience of Commoners heard Franck's succinct, subtle, and truthful challenge to the Legal*Eagles' myriad misstatements as he rejected the Standard Saratoga mantra of "For GOD'S SAKE MAN, Do NOTHING!"
He was fair, he was factual, and he was Franck (<-- BIG spellink errur!!).
John (and Ivins and Johnson) sealed their fates as the NIMBY's DAMNED those Commissioner with THREATS! Or just MAYBE the Citizens will DELIVER for Kids & Kommunity with VOTES.
But in this gambling town-- Five Francks beat a Full House any day.

Condo. Tax. Payer.
John Franck appears to be the Nazi Style McTygue clone that will do anything to fight his party and deceive the taxpayer. He and Johnson should be paraded in Townsquare for us to have the opportunity to pelt them with tomatoes.
After hearing the exchanges between Kim & Franck last night I find it hard to believe that they will ever agree on anything.
It was a very contentious meeting.
Does Mr. Ivins ever voice an opinion ?
Anon 9:28:
As far as my coverage of the vote goes, Commissioner Ivins was the victim of not being vocal enough to breach the limited space given to me to cover City Council meeting.
His opinion, as stated last night, is that it's regrettable that funds for the rec center were bonded before the facility was 100-percent shovel ready. But, since he can't change the past, Ivins said he would rather see the project go forward than waste the million dollars already spent on design services, planning, and debt service on the three bonds.
I've just got off the phone with Allen Turkheimer, chairman of the city Dems.
He denies that he directed to Franck to vote against the rec center "or else." Of course, neither Franck nor myself named Allen of being behind those remarks, but there's the denial.
Will Franck's vote effect his chances of a berth on the party ticket?
"I'm not going to base my decision off that," Turkheimer said. "He did what he had to do, what he felt was right, and that's what he's elected to do."
Still Turkheimer also pointed out that party endorsements are made by the party as a whole.
What do you expect from the Saratoga Democratic Committee? They still think Kim should have gotten the nod over Murphy. They are just paying Murphy lip service while they actively plot against him behind his back. When Tedisco moves to congress Kim can now run for Tedesco’s open seat. Their is no Party loyalty.
I have no doubt when this Rec center is successfully completed and everyone wonders what all the fuss was about the Goldbergs with much fanfare will show up at city council meeting were Mr. Goldberg will strike his best Mussolini pose and demand the rec center be named the Val Keehn Memorial Recreation Center. Ron Kim will second the motion.
The REC Center should be named after no one. Just build it and 2 years from now people will forget it and move on. If those NIMBY'S don't like it they can move out. The vote is done. This is long over due as is The Public safety Building. That will happen next. These democrats, especially anons 1:17 and 7:44 need to shut up and work together. Stop blaming others when it's you that continues to fan the flame.
There will be no paid parking in Saratoga, without it no public safety building. Unless our bloated police force want to have mayor cut backs from their pork laden contracts it will never happen. The Police need a manager, when Patrolman make six figures something is out of wack. The population of Saratoga will no longer grow it will shrink we will never need a force of this size again They already take up half the City budget when will it end.
John Franck continues to drive a wedge between Kim and Johnson. He is purposely picking this fight to help promote the independence party next election cycle. He doesn't want the democratic endorsement. He is still a McTygue puppet and is being used by McTygue so the independents can rise on the scene in the fall.
