Rec Center Recycling

With the construction of the Indoor Recreation Center now substantially underway, I got a tip that the Department of Public Works had been ordered to conduct some demolition over at the site. This seemed odd, since the city had contract Bast Hatfield to do that work.

As it turns out, Commissioner of Public Works Skip Scirocco said his department removed some of the blacktop, which it sells to Pallette Stone, which, in turn, recycles the stone. This all results in some small revenue to the city. Bast Hatfield was going to land fill it all.

Similarly, DPW stored the basketball hoops and some other equipment from the site for later re-use. Call it creative demolition.

i've been unable to post on the website. i didn't know if i got barred with gerard and the kaiser. i know some ribbing went on, but i don't think i said anything to outrageous to garner banishment. it was mostly pointed toward the guy who was making up the puppykiller stories about elected officials...

Demroc: Apparently, you've been banned from commenting on the website. You should address concerns to web editor Stephen Shoemaker: sshoemaker@saratogian.com

Don't worry, I'll still let you post comments on this blog. AB

To be clear: Corporate banned you when I sent in a request to update our word filter last week, and at the time I was apathetic about removing the ban.

You've got access to story comments again, but let's keep it civil and on topic and stop slinging insults at each other; otherwise, I'm canning all three of you.

By the way Gerard: Your alter egos were all banned, too. That remains in effect.

Oh snap! Cheers Steve. It was about time someone killed off the alter egos. Dare I ask how many he had?

Just so Ho Rat knows I have 14 alter egos. Do you think you and tighe should be the only one's having fun?

As far as REC Center recycling goes we at the Housing Authority are going to use the playground equipment for our property on Allen Drive for the Affordable Housing we are building there. The basketball courts are not going to be part of it.
