The McDonald Show

I spent about an hour this afternoon at a rally designed to launch Roy McDonald's run for state senate. The event was well attended, both by press and citizens, despite the hot sun. To top things off, free Ben and Jerry's ice cream kept the crowd cool (but not me -- does it look like I eat ice cream?)

I have to say that after a week of trying to keep up with which Democrats were running, which weren't, who had announced, and who was thinking about it, and who was rumored to be collecting signatures, attending McDonald's event was a relief.

With me at the rally was a veritable who's-who of city, county, and other notable Republicans. Even if Joe Bruno wasn't there, the message couldn't have been clearer: Mr. Seney notwithstanding, McDonald is our guy. Plain. Simple. Done.

We'll see if the all-for-one approach of the GOP will stand strong against the multi-faceted approach of the Democrats, but I know that I would appreciate it if the Dems could organize a little better!

I didn't see him, but that doesn't mean he wasn't there.

Andrew,

I'm a Democrat. I'm a member of the City Democratic Committee. City Democrats will not unite behind any one candidate for the 43rd seat. We have no leadership and are a deeply divided party.

The well is still poisoned. Yepsen wants Valerie's supporters but she (Yepsen) never supported Val. Instead she had a foot in both camps. She does not have the courage to speak up and out. This si all about her, not good government.

Russo is being pushed by the Boyd camp of anti-Democrats (Franck and Klotz) who are still water boys for McTygue. That will hurt him (Russo)big time.

Roy - if he's smart - will reach out to disenfranchised City Democrats. These are moderate and progressives who have no voice with Franck nor he with them. He is not looked on as a stand up guy.

Franck's irrational opposition to the Police sataion will be turned on Russo.

Kim supports Yepsen, but unless she cleans up her personal act and takes a strong stand on the issues many Dems are Roy's if he moves to the rational political center.

I saw Paul Lilac, former Stillwater Supervisor at Roy's Press Conference! After the big upset in Stillwater last November, spearheaded by Lilac, Mr. McDonald might be thinking of appointing Butch Lilac his Campaign Manager!

Senator Hugh Farley was not there but I don't believe there are any ill feelings.
