Some more ideas from residents on spending (or not) the city's VLT $
Thank you to those who responded to my call for comments on City Finance Comm. Ivins' request for public suggestions on how to spend the $1.5 mil slated to be paid to the city in restored video lottery terminal host funding. Here are a couple anonymous responses that didn't make it in the story.
From "a resident": "I have confidence in the commissioner and his colleagues to spend the funds as they see appropriate and I appreciate the opportunity to make suggestions."
From "a native Saratogian": "I'd like to see some of that spent on infrastructure, especially on the west side of town. Also, give it back... a nice break would be nice."

I see that you have archives for your blog, but I don't see a way for us to see archives of regular news stories.
Some other newspapers offer archives of news stories.

Patrick, the "native Saratogian" who didn't make the story has to learn a little history. First of all the only native Saratogians were the American Indians who were here before any white man stepped on our soil. Those people who have moved to Saratoga can be called "transplants", while anyone born in Saratoga can be called "special". Now isn't that special?
No kudos to DPW Commish for suggesting his Dept use big chunk of the VLT monies.
Use a portion for special Capital project needs, like new jail , police sta, Eastside EMS, Casino, infrastructure. Not for the Lake Front Park with no beach. Keep priorities straight.
Use the other portion for keeping 2012 tax rate in line.Signed, Suark
Why no mention of the $$4.1 million surplus announced at the Council Meeting 4/19. Did anyone pay attention to that??? Major story. No coverage.
We could double the size of the Police Station in a month. Relocate DPW and take that existing space for the Police Station. Cost - Minimal
As Far as VLT fund the bigger question should be why a major surplus in the City Budget went uncovered in the news. Every major paper has covered the story.The Saratogain needs to get their act together!!
