The Saratogian Newsroom blog, complete with thoughts and commentary from our newsroom staff and regular posts on happenings around town.

Wednesday, July 16

There's a whole lot going on in city government at the moment, from the ongoing debate over the proposed capital projects to the hiring of attorneys to handle labor negotiations. Plus, we have about 54 hours until Senator Joe Bruno becomes just plain Joe Bruno, and then who knows what will happen.

In spite of all of that, I'm going to use my time tonight to write about something happening here at The Saratogian. If you've visited www.saratogian.com recently, you might have noticed that the site's layout is slightly different, and that the time it takes for pages to load is much faster.

That's good stuff. The new (old) web platform will allow some functionality that really should be a part of any website in the wonderful world of web 2.0, have now returned, including the ability to comment on stories, web polls, the ability to embed video in stories, etcetera. It's all pretty exciting, and hopefully, it will answer some of the complaints you all have been voicing since the new site went live back in December.

You can read more about the change over at Tangled in Wires, Web Editor Stephen Shoemaker's blog. Another bit of good news is the return of our archives from the past seven years. The past six months will be missing for a bit, but will return in due time, once they've been migrated over to the new server. Big changes for us here, I hope you enjoy the new site!
