Sayonara Aretakis, take II

The last time I said good bye to Attorney John Aretakis, it was because I was sick of his vitriol, and no longer appreciated him attempting to use me as a tool for propaganda. Of course, he felt the other side was doing the same thing. I maintain that I am above "use" in that manner.

In any event, courtesy of my colleagues at the Troy Record, today we have the second good bye, as it were.

It seems that the state's appellate division court is sick of Aretakis, and has handed him a one-year suspension, to begin on 12/31 of this year.

The one question not answered, is who will represent the many clients that Aretakis swooped in to pick up in the wake of abuse cases and illness? That's all. Drive safe tonight.

The guy is a complete psycho. He lies, makes things up, misrepresents his clients, files fraudulent lawsuits and is arrogant beyond belief. He uses his own imagination to create a virtual reality and then believes it. He should have had his license taken away with no chance of becoming an attorney again.
The public would be safer that way.

#1 - do you know for a fact that Aretakis makes things up & lies, or are you just repeating what Bishop Hubbard wants you to believe? If you believe it, lists the....

Fact is Mr Aretakis is the only one working to protect our children against pedophile priests....apparently you don't give a damn!

this guy supports his clients without getting a nickel. Keep in mind that no one would go the distance, and more importantly pointing out that this is not only a sin of the past but something the church has continued to hide and support. if not, why wouldn't they have really shut him up by settling? do you really think all these people are lying? do you really think the church should have this kind of control? shame on all the people involved in not showing some acknowledgement that bad things happened.....

shame on the church and the supporters - go after the guy who takes on these cases and as well known is not paid a cent to support and fight...shame on the church and their inside track for forgeting who are the real "pychos" in this - those that abused and those who continue to cover up that fact that these happened under the sign of the cross!

Yes, it is sad that the church has taken advantage of children, however the decision to suspend him was based on his “frivolous conduct by making false accusations against judges, which accusations were prejudicial to the administration of justice” and had engaged in conduct that “adversely affects on his fitness as an attorney, asserted positions which served to harass and malicious injure, knowingly made false statements of law and fact and engaged in undignified and discourteous conduct degrading to the court”. The appellate court that handed down the decision isn't influenced by the church, rather they were considering Aretakis' behavior and his lack of professional conduct in the courtroom and in public.

I applaud lawyers who are trying to help people victimized by those who are in a position of power and authority. I would expect that these lawyers would engage themselves in a way that would not bring down the integrity of the profession of law, and that they conduct themselves in a manner that places them on higher ground than than the people they are bringing to justice.

The appellate court has found that Aretakis has not conducted himself in this manner, and therefore has suspended him from practicing law.

Seriously now, Good Bye Mr. Aretakis.

Aretakis was denied a motion to appeal his suspension last Thursday.

From PLOL.org:
2009 NY Slip Op 61479

IN THE MATTER OF JOHN A. ARETAKIS, an Attorney.
COMMITTEE ON PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS, Respondent; JOHN A. ARETAKIS, Appellant.

Motion No: 2009-29

Court of Appeals of the State of New York.

Decided January 22, 2009.

On the Court's own motion, appeal dismissed, without costs, upon the ground that no substantial constitutional question is directly involved.
Motion for leave to appeal denied.
Motion for a stay dismissed as academic.

Hopefully this is the beginning of the end of this obnoxious shyster.
